Dr. Tom Dobbs Oral Health Kits Healthcare Distribution

Every $50 donation provides 25 Oral Health Kits (OHKs) to those in need. Kits include: Toothbrush, toothpaste, Floss and oral healthcare tips. OHKs are distributed throughout the year.

For 2023, we are distributing 204 OHKs for adults and 204 OHKs for children.

Monthly and Annual Donations

Monthly and annual donations may be conveniently processed through Canada Helps. We as dentists have expertise in oral health. A suggestion is to select a procedure code and commit the fee associated with that procedure as a monthly donation. At year’s end, a charitable tax receipt will be issued for your generous donations. For example:

  • Limited Examination of a recall patient: Code 01202 – $41.20
  • Panoramic Radiograph: Code 02601 – $90.00
  • Complete Examination in permanent dentition: Code 01103 – $123.40
  • One surface tooth coloured restoration: Code 23321 – $186.70

Dr. Michael Cuthbert Endowment

In January of 2019, the MDA lost a member of our profession whose work in organized dentistry was exemplary, Dr. Michael Cuthbert. During his 37 years of licensure served on many committees of the Manitoba Dental Association. This would include the Economics Committee, Communications Committee, Fluoride Working Group, and the Manitoba Dental Association Board. He was a strong advocate for the dental needs of the working poor and First Nations Communities in Manitoba.

To honor of his memory, the Manitoba Dental Foundation Board created the Michael Cuthbert Endowment Fund. To date we have raised $100,000.00 for this fund. The MDF Board recently approved the management of these funds by Winnipeg Foundation Inc. 

The Western Manitoba Dental Society Golf Day has been renamed in memory of Dr. Cuthbert. Proceeds of the golf day is contributed to this endowment.

Planned Giving Donations

Lyle Best Humanitarian Award

The Manitoba Dental Foundation has created the Lyle R. Best Humanitarian Award to honour Lyle’s tireless efforts, tremendous contributions, generosity and leadership to charitable, sports, and community organizations including the profession of dentistry. Mr. Best has been the recipient of many honours including the Order of Canada.  

The Lyle Best Humanitarian Award was established in 2018. Given to an individual or organization who has a profound impact on the dental health of impoverish populations nationally or internationally. $15,000 provided to aid in the continued effort of providing dental care to that population. 

In 2022, the Lyle Best Humanitarian Award’s recipient is Dr. Aaron Kim. Awarded tri-annually at The Manitoba Dental Foundation Smile Gala, the next award is scheduled for 2025.
